Not Just Phoning It In

Call me, maybe?

Call me, maybe?

I honestly didn’t think this #OneGoodThing would be so hard… and only fives days into the project. But I’m sitting here trying to figure out what #OneGoodThing I can share with you today.

Like many, I spend a lot of time on the phone with professionals of many sorts: doctors and vets, pharmacies, various insurance companies, repair companies, the city/county, and the like. Dealing with these sorts of phone calls can feel like a battle or an obstacle course. I find I have to steel myself before answering. No matter how frustrating they can become, I try to maintain politeness. My mama always taught me that you’ll attract more flies with honey than vinegar — and it’s never more true than on the phone. So although it may seem odd, I guess today’s #OneGoodThing is the voice of a medical professional on the other end of the phone who actually listens and wants to help. When you can find a gem like this, don’t let go.

I was lucky enough to have two instances today. But here’s what I mean… our sweet little Abby just tore her ACL on her previously perfectly fine knee (the dog version of this anyway) and we are submitting the claim to her insurance. This means jumping through many bureaucratic hoops and hoping they don’t confuse this new injury with her chronic GI issues (which have lasted more than 2 years and are excluded on the insurance unfortunately). Dealing with insurance is a battle. Yet today we learned that it’s not just us versus the insurance, as is typically the case. Our specialist vet’s office, with whom we now have an extended relationship, has been so wonderfully helpful and is championing our cause. Abby will have x-rays and meet with the surgeon next week to discuss options so fingers crossed that the pre-authorization is approved in time to allow for the best options possible. It is such a good feeling to have someone knowledgeable help with something difficult over the phone. So much good. So that’s today’s #OneGoodThing.

Day 5 of 366.

  1. I’m glad you’ve got the good guys on your side. And, I hope the little champ can be fixed, good as new.

(You have set yourself quite a challenge with the One Good Thing!)

    • Yes it is quite a challenge Yvonne. Especially because I’m trying to not repeat any day. Otherwise I could just say that Abby is the #OneGoodThing every day as she most certainly is!!! We’ll find out more about what’s next when we meet with the surgeon next week. Fingers crossed! Thanks for the well wishes 🙂

    • Thanks Michele,
I am finding that if I start looking for the #OneGoodThing earlier in the day, it is easier to find it. Yesterday I actually found 2 options for my post 🙂
Thanks for your lovely comment! Sending you all the best!!!
